So I created this video because I’ve been reading a TON of posts lately about setting goals for 2011. I don’t want to re-hash the same stuff, so I won’t. Instead I wanted to share with you three well known tips on how to reach your goals through greater productivity and focus for your business this year.
The video above is very explanatory, so watch it and if you have some questions post a comment below.
1 – Focus on One thing at a Time
This has been one of my biggest weaknesses the past couple of years. I start strong on something but then fade as the “romance” phase with a project dropped off. I’d often let new ideas creep in and I’d find myself being spread thin across multiple projects. The end result? Stuff wasn’t getting done, and my results and income wasn’t growing.
By focussing on only one project at a time, as well as one task at a time has allowed me to greatly increase my productivity and get more done in the same amount of time each day.
2 – Block Out the Noise
There are a lot of different types of noise in the Internet Marketing space. One of course is that which we create ourselves via Emails, Facebook, Twitter etc. The other type of noise is the industry constantly coming up with new ways of doing things and products that are supposed to make our lives easier.
The reality here is that we can usually do without 90% of the stuff we waste time on during the day.
Try scheduling time each day to check Facebook, email and twitter. Also restrict your time spent on forums and blogs. I’m not saying there isn’t some great information out there, but at the end of the day if you aren’t taking action and doing something on your business then everything stays the same.
3 – Finish What you Start
I know some people will say, “but Ian what if a project is a DUD, do I keep pushing forward with it?” the answer to this is no of course not. What I am talking about is when you choose that one project to focus on set yourself up for success and see it through to the end. Like the example I gave in the video of building 10 sites that each earn $500 a month for a total of $5000 in revenue per month you need to finish that first site before you can move closer to your $5000 a month goal. If you don’t get the first site done then the goal is just a day dream.
Focus in on one project at a time, finish it and then move onto the next. This is what will bring your goals and dreams into reality in 2011.
A couple of good resources you should check out to do with this same topic are:
Smart Passive Income Podcast #12 – In this Pat Flynn (host) talks about some great tips he has introduced to his business and day-to-day workflow to help him get more done. Again, a lot of what Pat talks about is straight forward stuff, but we forget just how important it can be and how it can play an integral role of reaching our goals.
Paul Lemberg’s 4 part series on Time Management – Paul is a very well respected business coach and strategic planner. I’ve been a fan of his blog for quite some time and when this series came out over a year ago there were a lot of great tips to apply to my affiliate business.
