Conversion is a topic that the majority of affiliates don’t pay much attention to, myself included sometimes. How ever I can say from first hand experience that it is the absolute best way to increase you monthly income from affiliate marketing without getting any more traffic, spending any more on your pay per click campaigns or doing an SEO campaign for a new or old keyword.
An Example:
Let’s say you have a page that is getting 500 visits a month. Right now that page is generating between 3 and 5 sales a month, or in other words you conversion right now is between 0.6% and 1%. That might seem low but if you took some time to review the number of visits your getting to a particular page then trace that back to the number of sales that page is generating it’s likely not that far off.
What would happen if you could double your conversion for that page? Well you’d double your income from that page as well right? YES
More Money without More Traffic
By split testing your current page versus a variation of the current page you can make small changes to see how they affect the click through and sales generated for the program you’re promoting.
Some ideas of things to test:
- Your Headline
- Product Images and Placement
- Videos on the page
- Colors you use on the page
- Your content (short, long etc.)
If you brain storm on it there is quite possibly 20-30 different things you can test.
How can you Split Test?
The absolute easiest method of split testing is to use Google’s Website Optimizer which is a free tool. You do need to know a bit about code and how to edit a webpage, but it’s not heavy duty.
With Google Website Optimizer you can literally create a second version of the page you want to test or just split test an individual element of that page such as the headline, a button or an image.
By split testing you can then determine which version of a page performs better both in click thrus to your merchant as well as commissions for you.
I won’t get too deep into this topic right now because the next video I’m going to do this week is a quick tutorial on using Google Website Optmizer, but if you’re game to give it a shot on your own right now here’s the link to the service.
I’d suggest the first thing you test is the headline on your page. This has more effect then you might think on your visitors mind set once they hit your site.
Good luck and happy testing!
